HISTORY

Our journey started back in the Spring of  2007 when my wife, Darice, asked me to pick up some pet food for my family’s dogs. We were trying to find them high quality Canadian treats, but noticed that it was almost impossible. There were a few products on the shelves that were made in Canada, but as we found out, there was not a consistent supply.

When I checked with the retailer, I learned that  no one, at that time, had the means in Canada to steadily supply dog treats and, for that reason, treats had to be imported from other countries.

​

My professional background is in Quality Control for the Canadian meat industry and I immediately thought that I could create the products that I was looking for. My discussion with the retailer led me to believe that there was a need for a quality Canadian solution and I suggested that I would try to provide some 100% Canadian products and as they say, the rest is history.

Within a few short weeks, we were providing customers with a 100% guaranteed all natural Canadian solution for dog treats. After just 2 years, in the Fall of 2009, it became necessary to move to a state-of-the-art facility in Fort Macleod so that we could continue to provide the quality and volume that the retailers were looking for and expected from us.

It was during this time that I partnered with Dave Rae. Dave was    experienced in managing and operating large facilities and had the background to help make Puppy Love Pet Products thrive in it’s new facility. When Dave came on board in 2008, we immediately developed plans for Puppy Love Pet Products’ growth and expansion. Together, we had over 50 years of combined experience in meat processing, plant ownership, management and quality control that we are able to ensure the highest quality products from Canadian sources.

In 2017. Dave Rae stepped down from Puppy Love Pet Products and retired. This opened up the opportunity for Dr. Troy Basarab to come on board and join the Puppy Love team. With a MBA, Troy has a business savvy mind that will help Puppy Love Pet Products to continue to grow and thrive.

Our goals have stayed the same, to provide a competitive, all natural, quality assured 100% Canadian solution from human grade sources. The processes that we use are simple and our objective is to maintain as much natural nutrition in the products as possible. Nothing is added to our products; no additives or preservatives, and that’s a guarantee.

​

Thanks must go out to those who have supported our products from the very beginning and who continue to show support. We’d also like to thank the many taste testers that continue to keep us on the right track. From the beginning of our journey we have tried to listen to our customers and our determination is that this will continue to be our focus.
