Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients are used in making Puppy Love Pet Products?

Puppy Love products are single ingredient. We do not use any preservatives or additives in any of our products. If the package label states “Canadian Beef Liver”, that is the only product in the bag.

Where do the raw materials used in making Puppy Love products come from?

Our raw materials are 100% Canadian origin and are sourced directly from various Canadian government inspected processing facilities. These facilities follow the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) food safety and humane handling requirements, which are considered among the most strict standards in the world.

Are Puppy Love Pet Products free of antibiotics, hormones, and steroids?

All of our products meet the Canadian Food Inspection Agency regulations for antibiotic and hormone residue parameters for human grade meat products.  Although, many of our products do come from antibiotic and hormone free animals, we cannot claim that for all of our raw materials.

Where can I find Puppy Love Pet Products?

Puppy Love and Puppy World pet products are distributed direct from our plant in Fort Macleod, Alberta to well over 250 retail stores across Canada. To find a location near you please visit the “Store Locator” tab on our website.

Does Puppy Love Pet Products support pet rescue efforts?

Yes! We are proud to support pet rescue efforts and have sent donations to numerous rescue organizations across Canada. Make sure to like and follow our Facebook/Instagram page for rescue donation giveaways. If you are a rescue looking for a possible donation of chews, send us a message through our "Contact Us" page.

Why are Bison and Elk products becoming more difficult to find in the stores?

We are faced with major challenges sourcing Bison and Elk raw materials because the number of animals being processed in Canada are decreasing each year. Although we source products from several suppliers, we cannot meet demand. Items like the windy chews, trachea, and bully sticks only come one piece per animal making the demand for these things much higher than the actual supply. In the case of Bison, more Canadian animals are now exported to the USA and processed there due to higher values for the meat in that market.

Are the bones in chicken wing tips, chicken feet and duck feet a risk for our pets?

All of our dehydrated products are slow cooked resulting in the bone material crystallizing rather than

becoming brittle (which would cause splintering when chewed).

Chicken wing tips, duck wings, chicken and duck feet contain lots of cartilage which are rich in glucosamine

and chondroitin. These elements promote healthy coats and joint health in our pets. Keep in mind, we recommend

pets always be supervised when given treats.

Why are there no expiry dates on the product bags? What is the shelf life of

Puppy Love Pet Products?

Each week, we produce and deliver freshly produced treats and chews to our retail partners. We work closely with our retail partners to ensure they rotate the products as new orders come in to make sure that the customer is always getting the freshest product available. All of our cooked products are shelf stable and can be stored for 1 year in a cool place, away from sunlight.

Why do some of the bagged treats have a strong unpleasant odour?

Many of our bagged treats are made of organ meats and may have a strong odour when the bag is first opened. Usually, this odour will diminish after a few minutes in the fresh air. The other factor is fat content. Some products are naturally higher in fat content than others and the fat can sometimes have a strong odour. We do testing both inside and outside of our plant to ensure only the best quality products reach the consumer.

What is the difference between “Puppy Love” and “Puppy World”?

Puppy Love products are sourced in Canada while Puppy World products are sourced from other countries (such as Australia, New Zealand) The origin of the products is shown on the package label. Puppy World products are processed at our plant in Fort Macleod, Alberta and do not contain any preservatives or additives.

Are the moisture packs in some of your bagged products poisonous?

While the moisture packs found in some of bagged products are NOT poisonous, they are also not food. We recommend caution when feeding your dog our treats to ensure that the moisture pack is not accidentally ingested.

How do I know what chews/treat are okay to feed my pet?

As there are so many variables when it comes to dogs (size, breed, age, chewing habits, etc), we always recommend checking with your vet if you are ever unsure if a product is suitable for your pet. That being said, we have many dogs of all ages and sizes that enjoy a wide variety of our products.

Is Your Packaging Recyclable?

We are aware of how lucky we are to have access to clean water and natural resources. Here at Puppy Love Pet Products we feel the need to do our part and reduce our carbon footprint as best we can. Puppy Love Pet Products only uses human-grade ingredients that are free from additives, preservatives, chemicals and synthetics. By avoiding these things we are keeping those toxins out of our soil and groundwater, plus it helps your pet to enjoy better digestion, higher energy levels, and even reduced allergies.

For many pet food makers, a huge amount of energy is expended to process food with high heat used for making kibble and the canning process, which expels a huge sum of air pollution.  In order to reduce waste and stay out of landfills we have started a recycling program for all our Puppy Love Pet Products packaging and labels. This includes all our Raw Freeze Dried Food packaging as well as our Puppy Love chews and treats. We are working with Terra Cycle Canada and will either recycle or upcycle any of our used packaging and labels. Collect all your used Puppy Love Pet Products packaging and labels and contact us for your free shipping label.
